Weekend

Okay, so it's been a while...again. I'm really bad at updating this page, but I'll try to be more consistent--and maybe it'll be what I use to keep in touch while I'm in Italy!

Speaking of Italy, I leave in less than three weeks, so things are really starting to become rather busy here. I have parents to meet with, students to prepare for the trip, and lesson plans to create, not to mention getting myself ready in the meantime! It will be much easier for me this year...and maybe that's why I'm putting everything off for so long? I've been there before so I kinda have an idea of what to take and what to leave home--and I'm going to make myself a huge note to remind me to leave some space in my suitcase for souvenirs (so I don't have to buy a second bag to bring home like I did last year!!). I guess I won't be bringing home as much as I did last year. But we'll see. :-)

Anyway, this weekend was great. I saw Breanne on Saturday and we had a chance to catch up over lunch. She was in town for the weekend with her husband, and I still haven't figured out exactly why. I think to visit family. We ate lunch at BJ's and I'd never been there before, but I highly recommend you try it sometime. They have the most interesting salads--I know that sounds strange, so let me explain. The lettuce is chopped into small pieces and covered in dressing before they put it into the bowl...does that make sense? So you don't get down to the bottom of the salad and decide not to finish it because you have no dressing left...it's fantastic! Bre and I also shared one of their desserts--a pazookie? I'm not sure if that's it's name, but something like that. YUM! A cookie, still fresh from the oven, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. MMMmmm....mmmm....good! It was great to visit with Bre...I miss her!

Yesterday I spent the day in the bay area. My parents were doing a show in Pleasanton so I took advantage of the opportunity to get out of town for a bit. I had intended on staying the night, but the hotel was full (holiday weekend, I guess) and I didn't like the idea of sleeping on the floor! Anyway, I know you're going to ask--Yes, I went to Ikea. My friend needed to buy a new dresser (he'd been telling me this for about six months, and is a guy, so he still hadn't bought one) and I hadn't been to that fabulous store in a couple of months, so I saw an opportunity and took it. Note to my friends: it's a very bad idea to take a guy shopping on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year, particularly if it's a store he doesn't really like in the first place. You see, Ikea was having a sale. Not only that, but it's also a three-day weekend. So everyone and their mother and sister and 3 kids decided to go shopping at the same exact time that we were there. Obviously my friend was put-off by the large crowds and the long lines (not an exaggeration to say we stood line for about 20 minutes), but I love that store and nothing could put me in a bad mood. :-) Believe it or not, I didn't buy anything. I had intended to...I found this really cool flashlight for $1.99 and decided I couldn't live without it. I even carried the item with me all the way to the checkout line...but then my friend decided that he was going to buy it for me instead. Yes, that's right. A "thoughtless gift" (but appreciated nonetheless) from the one who shall remain nameless...kinda like Prince...I'll give him a symbol--we'll call him &#>@#$. Oh wait, I already call him that. haha ;-) Anyway, after Ikea we had lunch at Tillie's, which is kind of like Austin's in Sanger. A cute little restaurant, a breakfast, lunch, dinner place that serves everything all day long. Not at all like Denny's, so don't even try to compare--this place is original, and is by far one of my favorite places to eat in the town...in fact it's on the list right behind the Pasta Pelican (it's hard to beat Italian). Anyway, then he unloaded his dresser parts (you know how Ikea does it) into his apartment and I went back to help my parents finish their show. I stayed until around 9, helping them pick up after the show, and then drove home half-asleep in the rain, and was home by midnight. :-) A good weekend!

Notes to friends: you probably shouldn't tell people they walk funny.
