thursday morning Oops!
A fun story for you....
I woke up yesterday morning to the sound of my house phone ringing. Odd, because I set my alarm for 4:30am and generally there is no one up at that hour...I don't even think my EC friends are up at that time!! hehe. So I opened my eyes and looked at the clock, wondering who would call me at 4:30 in the morning...and it was then that I realized it wasn't 4:30am at all, but rather, 8:07am.
Now, I set my alarm clocks ahead--but only by about 15 minutes. So 8:07am on the clock meant that really it was (hang on, doing the math) 7:52am or so. But still, I was late to work. Summer school starts at 7:30am and I am supposed to be there by 7:15am.
Uh oh.
I answered the phone and the school secretary was on the other end....
"Hello...?" (You know, in that "i haven't talked to anyone yet this morning so my voice is all messed up" voice)
"Jerelyn....are we calling in sick to work today?"
"No...umm...no. Shoot Becky, you just woke me up."
"Oh I see."
"Can you give me an hour...? I'll be there in about an hour."
"Sure that's fine. See you in an hour."
In my five years of teaching, I've never been late to work before. I took about 20 seconds to look at my alarm clock and tried to determine why it didn't go off when it was supposed to--oh, because I'm a nerd and forgot to turn it ON the night before (duh). Smart...real smart.
Once I'd come to that conclusion, then let me tell you, that was the fastest shower-blow-dry-make-up-get-dressed-brush-my-teeth-grab-a-bottle-of-water-on-my-way-out-the-door that I've ever done before in my life. I'd say it was about 18.3 minutes and I was in my car, pulling out of my garage. Ten minutes later I was at work. Still, about 45 minutes late...
Oops!!
Thankfully, everyone was great about it...the administration, the other teachers, even my students. Though, my students did make sure to tell me that I'd have detention during my first break of the day...the same consequence that they have for being tardy....hehe. I walked into my class and they were all sitting pretty quietly. None of them were working, of course, but at least they weren't bouncing off the walls either. We got right to work and the rest of the day ran pretty smoothly...
So.....exciting way to start my Thursday morning, eh? hehe. You can see now though, that it's 4:52am on Friday morning, and I'm up in PLENTY of time. I joined a gym out here in S-town and it opens at 5...so I'd best get on my way.
Enjoy your weekend!
oh, and on a side note...can someone explain to me please, why it's so difficult to guard our hearts......??

oh no!!! thankfully they called you and were so cool about it! i hate that "late feeling!" but hopefully you were well rested. 4:30? yikes! that makes me hurt just thinking about it!!
It is always nice that after the fact we can kinda look back and laugh about how silly it was not to turn the alarm on, we've all done it.
Now that I am on the EC (well for 2 more weeks) I have been up y 4:30 Cali time everyday as we have a class or meeting at 8 every day. Gotta love it!!
Hey - I'm up by 7:30 (usually)! Actually, I've been trying to be better about getting to work a tad earlier that usualy - for several reasons. But still, the earliest I'd be getting up would be 6am! I have almost the same thing before - I woke up late and was about an hour or so late to work. teehee....isn't that the reason we worked at McDonalds? To learn how to get to work on time?
