Two quick things real quick...
First, if you want to make a new teacher cringe, say the word "bitsa" to them. It is how we pronounce the acronym BTSA, which stands for Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment (Induction Program). I promise a reaction from the teacher that is not pleasant. This is a picture of my Professional Induction Portfolio for BTSA: two years of assignments...countless lesson plans, weeks worth of professional development, analyzing data, writing essays and too many reflections, assessing students, and gathered hundreds of pieces of evidence. You'd think I was writing my thesis! The people who coordinate this program tell us to keep the portfolio, to use it when we interview for jobs. I'm sorry, but do you know any principal or panel of teachers who is going to have time at an interview or even WANT to look through all that? Yuck. In the end, it's just a binder full of paperwork that I will get back in a few weeks and it will sit around and collect dust for the rest of it's life (which won't be long...Mark and I will need something for our fireplace this winter! hehe). What it means though, is that I've cleared my credential and am now up for tenure. So that's nice!

This second picture is one that Mark sent me today. He was on patrol duty walking around the mall in Dubai. This picture was taken in front of the ski slope that they have INSIDE the mall. Pretty cool, eh?! :-) I'm still not a fan of the mustache...but what can I do? :-) I miss him!! Only 4 1/2 months left!!
